Recon Team Virginia Pocket Patch,
1st Generation
In early 1971 the first generation Recon Team Virginia pocket patch was created. The circular / disk design has a yellow full moon in the center that is surrounded by a snake, surmounting the moon is a ¾ profile skull with a sword / dagger that penetrates the crown and exits out the base. Around the parameter of the patch is written CCN, RECON, and VIRGINIA with a red edged border. Three versions of the patch have been located in the hands of veterans; one is an Okinawan machine embroidered piece that has greater detail then the Taiwanese or Thai (Thailand) machine embroidered counterparts. The history of RT Virginia has been documented in the book: MAC V SOG: Team History of a Clandestine Army.
