James Jones US issued, 1st Model, OD green uniform top that had been stripped of the insignia and dyed black for cross border missions. The veteran later opted for standard issue fatigues with applied shadow lines and had a Command and Control Central (CCC) Bomb Burst patch sewn to the left chest pockets for wear on the compound.
James H. Jones served two tours in Vietnam. His first tour was in 1966 as a US Navy Seaman assigned to the Cargo Handling Battalion (CHB-2), Camp Tien, Da Nang. He returned for a second tour in 1969 with Military Assistance Command Vietnam Studies and Observations Group (MAC V SOG), Command and Control Central (CCC), Recon Company and served with Recon Teams Delaware and Illinois.
Sergeant (E-5) Jones processed out of the Army in January 1971 after three years’ service with forty months in Vietnam. Jim joined the 12th Special Forces Group (Reserves) and later completed an in-service transfer to the Air National Guard, Aerospace Rescue and Recovery Service (ARRS) as a Pararescue Jumper (PJ) where he remained until he was injured in a parachute accident and was medically discharged in 1984 with the rank of Technical Sergeant (E-6).
