Wartime, Counter Insurgency Support Office (CISO) procured black SOG boonie hat that was veteran modified on the front with US Basic Airborne Wings and tailor embroidered: RECON, RT IOWA and the reverse reads: GUNNISION.
In 1969 – 1971, John H. Gunnison was assigned to Military Assistance Command Vietnam Studies and Observations Group (MAC V SOG), Command and Control South (CCS), Recon Company and served on Recon Teams Level and Sickle. He later transferred to Command and Control Central (CCC), Recon Company where he reformed Recon Team Iowa. John was Wounded in Action and medevaced to CONUS in January 1971. It should be noted that the veteran performed a Static Line Combat Jump into Cambodia on January 21, 1970 with Recon Team Sickle.
