Frederick Caristo’s Vietnamese made SOG Wings. The veteran stated he had the sandcast insignia manufactured while he was the Case Officer for the Vietnamese Team Voi (The Bat). The team performed an airborne insert into North Vietnam in January 1967. All contact was lost in April 1967, presumed dead.
Frederic J.G. Caristo served six tours in South East Asia. His first tour was in 1965 with Military Assistance Command Vietnam (MAC V) assigned as an Adviser to the 37thVietnamese Ranger Battalion. His second tour was in 1966 with MAC V as an adviser to the 1st Vietnamese Ranger Task Force. Frederic’s third tour was in 1966 to 1968 with Military Assistance Command Vietnam Studies and Observations Group (MAC V SOG), OPS-34 as an Agent Handler. He returned in 1968 for his forth tour assigned to the US Army Vietnam, Detachment A as the Unit Commander and was later Wounded in Action (WIA) and returned CONUS. His fifth tour was in 1971 assigned to the Phoenix Program as the Senior Advisor, Soc Trang Province. Caristo’s sixth tour was in 1972 assigned to the Military Equipment Delivery Team.
