Ray Frovarp’s Zippo lighter souvenired to him by the Opera Hotel Driver named WASUN. The piece is engraved on the face: TO: RAY, FROM WASUN, OPERA HOTEL, BANGKOK, THAILAND. The reverse reads: ALL SPECIAL FORCES EAT THAI STEAK FUCK VC.
Raymond M. Frovarp served two tours in Vietnam. His first tour was in 1967 with Military Assistance Command Vietnam Studies and Observations Group (MAC V SOG), Forward Operational Base #3, Khe Sanh and later FOB#1, Phu Bai (FOB#1), Recon Company assigned to Recon Team North Carolina. He returned for a second tour in 1971 with MAC V SOG, Command and Control North (CCN), Recon Company assigned to Recon Team Louisiana.
Master Sergeant (E-8) Frovarp retired from the Army in June 1987 after twenty years’ service with twenty-four months in Vietnam.
