Samuel Helland’s US issued third model uniform top that was badged on the left sleeve with a Special Forces Shoulder Sleeve Insignia (SSI), the left breast pocket has a printed Special Commando Unit (SCU) patch that is surmounted by a US ARMY tape and US Basic Airborne Wings. The right chest has a tape that reads: HELLAND and the garment has Specialist rank applied to the sleeves.
In 1970, Samuel T. Helland served with Military Assistance Command Vietnam Studies and Observations Group (MAC V SOG), Command and Control Central (CCC), Recon Company where he served on Recon Teams Alabama and Wyoming.
Sergeant (E-5) Helland processed out of the Army in 1971 after three years’ service with twelve months in Vietnam. He later enlisted in the United States Marine Corp as an Officer Candidate and retired in 2009 with the rank of Lieutenant General.
