Robert Clapp’s SOG issued black boonie hat that the veteran had a tailor shorten the brim, apply an orange panel on the interior crown and Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN) Airborne Wings on the face.
Robert A. Clapp served two tours in Vietnam. His first tour was in 1965 with the 1st Calvary Division. He returned for a second tour in 1967 with Military Assistance Command Vietnam Studies and Observations Group (MAC V SOG), Forward Operational Base #1 (FOB#1), Recon Company, assigned to Recon Team’s Rhode Island and Dakota.
First Sergeant (E-8) Clapp retired from the Army in April 1985 after twenty-two years’ service with twenty-four months in Vietnam.
