Fat Guard SOG Knife, 2nd Generation

Horton Daniels’ MAC V SOG issued 2nd Generation Fat Guard SOG Knife.

Horton O. Daniels served four tours in Vietnam. His first tour was in 1964 with a 1st Special Forces Group (ABN) TDY team assigned to an unknown camp / location. He returned for a second tour was in 1965 with 5th Special Forces Group (ABN) assignment unknown. Horton’s third tour in 1967 with Military Assistance Command Vietnam Studies and Observations Group (MAC V SOG), Forward Operational Base #1, Phu Bai, assigned to Spike Team Mississippi. Daniels returned for a third tour in 1971 with MAC V SOG Liaison Bureau.

The second generation Fat Guard SOG Knives were procured through the Counter Insurgency Support Office (CISO) for Military Assistance Command Vietnam Studies and Observations Group (MAC V SOG) sometime in 1970. The blade design had changed but still retained a short / thick cross guard and white spacers in the handle. Another order was later fulfilled for MAC V SOG, Joint Casualty Recover Center (JCRC / OPS-80) in 1972.
