Raymond Frovarp’s MAC V SOG issued 2nd Generation Fat Guard SOG Knife.
Raymond M. Frovarp served two tours in Vietnam. His first tour was in 1967 with Military Assistance Command Vietnam Studies and Observations Group (MAC V SOG), Forward Operational Base #3, Khe Sanh and later FOB#1, Phu Bai (FOB#1), Recon Company assigned to Recon Team North Carolina. He returned for a second tour in 1971 with MAC V SOG, Command and Control North (CCN), Recon Company assigned to Recon Team Louisiana.
Master Sergeant (E-8) Frovarp retired from the Army in June 1987 after twenty years’ service with twenty-four months in Vietnam.
The second generation Fat Guard SOG Knives were procured through the Counter Insurgency Support Office (CISO) for Military Assistance Command Vietnam Studies and Observations Group (MAC V SOG) sometime in 1970. The blade design had changed but still retained a short / thick cross guard and white spacers in the handle. Another order was later fulfilled for MAC V SOG, Joint Casualty Recover Center (JCRC / OPS-80) in 1972.
