John Meyer’s Forward Operational Base #1 (FOB#1) beer can insignia.
In 1968, John S. Meyer served with Military Assistance Command Vietnam Studies and Observations Group (MAC V SOG), Forward Operational Base #1 (FOB#1), Recon Company, assigned to Recon Team Idaho. He and the Recon Team Idaho were later reassigned to Command and Control North (CCN).
Staff Sergeant (E-6) Meyers processed out of the Army in April 1970 after three and a half years’ service with nineteen months in Vietnam. John has written several books about MAC V SOG titled: Across the Fence and On the Ground.
Forward Operational Base #1 (FOB#1) was opened in 1966 and located in Phu Bai, Republic of Vietnam in the I Corp area. The camp was eventually closed in January 1969 and the personnel were reassigned to Forward Operational Base #2 (FOB#2) / Command and Control Central (CCC) or Forward Operational Base #4 / Command and Control North (CCN).
