In 1969, Michael D. O’Byrne served with 5th Special Forces Group (ABN), Project Gamma (B-57) and later transferred to Military Assistance Command Vietnam Studies and Observations Group (MAC V SOG), Command and Control North (CCN), as the Special Projects Officer until he joined Recon Team Rhode Island.
Michael returned to Vietnam for a second tour in 1972 with D -Troop 17th Cavalry as a Liaison Officer to the Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN) Command and later transferred to F-Troop, 8th Calvary, Scout Platoon.
(0-4) Major O’Bryne processed out of the Army in May 1980 after 13 years’ service with twenty-four months in Vietnam. Mike transferred to the Army Reserves and retired in 1995 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel (0-6).
