Clifford M. Newman served two tours in Vietnam. His first tour was in 1969 with Military Assistance Command Vietnam Studies and Observations Group (MAC V SOG), Command and Control North (CCN), Recon Company, assigned to Recon Teams: Ohio and Florida. He returned for his second tour in 1972 with 1stSpecial Forces Group (ABN), Detachment 222 assigned to Individual Training Command (ITG) / FANK (Forces Armee Nationale Khmer) Training Command.

Sergeant First Class (E-7) Newman was medically retired from the Army in April 1973 after ten years’ service with twenty-four months in Vietnam.
