Charlie Franks’ Zippo lighter that was presented to him after graduation from the Military Assistance Command Vietnam Studies and Observations Group (MAC V SOG), Reconnaissance Team Leader’s Course (1-0 School), Camp Long Thanh (B-53), RVN.
Charles M. Franks served two tours in Vietnam. His first tour was in 1969 with 5th Special Forces Group (ABN), assigned to A-105, Nong Son, RVN. He returned for a second tour in 1971 with Military Assistance Command Vietnam Studies and Observations Group (MAC V SOG), Task Force 1 Advisory Element (TF1AE / CCN), Recon Company assigned to Recon Team North Carolina.
Master Sergeant (E-8) Franks retired from the Army in 1993 after twenty-seven years’ service with twenty-three months in Vietnam.
